For those of you who made it to the site early, you saw a rather raw looking version of today’s comic. I had a few things come up last night, the biggest being my daughter waking with some pretty wicked night terrors. The short version is that we had to help her get back to sleep and that took some time. But on with the normal update!

So last night Diane and I went on a date and saw Scott Pilgim and my honest review is “meh”. I think part of the problem was me and part of the problem was the movie. Let me start out by saying that I’ll keep this as spoiler free as possible for those who have yet to see it.

  • The Good: I really liked the fights, they were by far the best part of the whole thing. The writing usually got better during these and the action was over-the-top awesome. I felt a little giddy every time a new evil ex showed up and I was just waiting to see how the fight played out. There were also lots of nerdy humor bits (like playing the Legend of Zelda theme every 5 minutes) which mad me very happy. Also, the dialog was good at points.
  • The Bad: Basically everything between the fights. Let me just point out that the fights are awesome, which makes everything else kind of pale in comparison. I all honesty, it’s just real life about Scott. And Scott by himself isn’t very interesting. He’s annoying most of the time, selfish and doesn’t really work out well as a main character. It’s only when he steps up his game and starts to do something that he becomes interesting.

Friday Comic Shout Out:
This weeks Friday comic shout out goes to Buttersafe! This comic is really funny and updates twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday. Each comic is generally a stand alone but sometimes there are characters that return, like the Punch Monster. I particularly like this comic because it makes me laugh a lot with a sense of humor that is both crazy, destructive and simple. I can’t really say much more about it besides “go check it out!”
